So, I started this a little late; a little late for discussing how strange of an adjustment southern living is from city living. However, I am still adjusting every day so I have plenty to talk about. But maybe a back story may be necessary here. So here goes:
I was born and raised in Southern California, on the beach. I spent my whole life in 75 degree weather, going to the beach every day, and living in a city. That was normal to me and I never really considered living life in any other way. Then one day, I decided to leave. I guess I felt I had had enough of a city life. The materialistic people, the pressure to make exorbitant amounts of money to spend frivolously, how fake people were and how two-faced everyone had become had really gotten to be more than I could bear. So I got this wild hair idea to pack up and leave. I wanted to go somewhere to find happiness and peace of mind. But I also wanted to learn something. I wanted to put myself in a situation that was completely foreign to me, and see if I could handle it and succeed. I didnt know how long I'd be gone, and that wasnt important to me. I had finished more schooling than most, and didn't need anymore units to transfer colleges, so I was set there. And I had no loose ends to tie up in California. No more relationship, no kids, no pets. So I set my sights on Montana. I chose Montana because it is very 'off the grid.' Its desolate, with minimal population and lots of animals. So I packed up my life and headed out to Montana. And the rest is history! If you are interested in reading about my travels and my life in Montana, as well as other places, you can jump over to my blog: http://samiswoofing.blogspot.com/ I documented my entire life there and there are many wonderful stories and lots of cute pictures of baby animals!
So this blog is about my life after Montana. Needless to say, I found my calling and my purpose in those travels, and I made it down here to Georgia. I fell in love with the South and knew I needed to call it home. It felt like home from the second I got here the first time, and I promised myself I would return. I'm still not sure exactly what made me fall in love with this place. It was many things, really. The weather, the friendly people, the FOOD!, the outdoor life, the way everyone is genuinely friendly towards others. So, to summarize that, I applied to the University of Georgia, and moved out here before I even knew if I got in or not. Talk about a crazy risk! But then, I GOT IN! So it made that risk all worthwhile. So I got into UGA as a transfer student, which is kind of a dream school of mine. Their large animal vet program is phenomenal and UGA is a fantastic school in general. So after getting accepted, I had to deal with out of state tuition, and then realized that it wasn't possible for me to afford out of state tuition. So I had to reapply for the next semester and petition my residency. So I did. AND I GOT IN! So I got in again, and my petition for in-state tuition was accepted. So now I am back on my feet, attending UGA on an in-state financial budget and I am working away at my degree. I also live in a 36 acre farm in Winder, Georgia. I am a large animal and small animal caretaker here. I take care of four draft horses and one draft donkey. I also take care of various dogs and cats that are boarded here while their owners are away. I live in a double-wide trailer on the property. To be honest, I didn't know what a double-wide trailer was nor had I ever seen one before I moved out here. But I like it, and it feels like home to me. And it's rent free! I work in exchange for rent. And as a broke college kid, I can't beat that. I have my faithful companion and best friend, Bixby, here with me. He has been my best buddy since I rescued him about two years ago in Macon. So he lives here with me and our roommate. He loves her too. And I think he really loves the South. He has plenty of space to run around and do 'Bixby things' as I like to call them, because I am not sure what he does really. But he's always happy when he comes back in so it must be alright.
So to sum me up now, I am a full-time student at the University of Georgia studying Animal Health Sciences. I work almost full-time and live in a trailer in Winder, Georgia. And I am just a city girl trying to make it out here in the South! I think I am doing alright so far. Enjoy the blog!
Bye y'all,
Sam
